It’s time for a new Dealmaster! Our latest roundup of the best tech deals from around the web includes a new low price for 8BitDo’s Pro 2 gamepad, which retails for $42.50 on Amazon. If you’d rather shop elsewhere, it’s also available for 50 cents more at Best Buy. The wireless gamepad normally costs $50, so this isn’t a huge discount, but it’s the best price we’ve tracked.
We gave the Pro 2 a positive review when it launched last year, calling it a “more useful, comfortable and customizable” take on Nintendo’s Switch Pro Controller, despite costing $20 less. The controller works on Switch, PC, macOS, Android, iOS and Raspberry Pi devices. Compared to Nintendo’s “Pro” pad, the biggest addition is two programmable back buttons. These can make certain inputs more convenient in faster, competitive games, because you don’t have to move your hands as much as you normally would. The controller is well built and comfortable, with hefty face buttons, joysticks with a satisfying tension level and even weight distribution. Unlike the Pro Controller, the Pro 2 also has analog triggers; this means that they react to different pressure levels, which can be useful to accelerate gradually in a racing game, for example, instead of always going full throttle. The D-pad is a bit sturdier than what you’d find on a PS5 or Xbox controller as it takes the old Super Nintendo pad but the presses feel crisp and clear so it works well for old school 2D Platformers or Puzzlers Like Tetris† 8BitDo also has a pretty comprehensive companion app that lets you remap inputs, create and assign macros, and fine-tune the sensitivity of the joysticks and triggers. These tweaks can be stored in three separate profiles, among other things.
The Pro 2 does not work with PlayStation or Xbox consoles. On the Switch, it lacks conveniences such as an NFC reader for Amiibo support and the ability to wake the console from sleep mode. The Switch Pro Controller also gets better battery life, lasting around 40 hours compared to Pro 2’s 20, although the latter isn’t bad in any way. But if you want a feature-rich controller that you’ll be using across platforms, the Pro 2 is a strong choice, and this deal price only bolsters its value.
If you’d rather use a mouse and keyboard instead of a gamepad, our roundup includes the best price we tracked for Razer’s Viper Ultimate, which has dropped to $52. We previously called it the best wireless gaming mouse you can buy, and although it’s a few years old now, it’s an exceptionally lightweight (74g) and responsive option for both competitive FPS gaming and everyday work. It’s not the most premium feel – Razer’s Synapse app can be a pain at times – and it charges via microUSB rather than USB-C, but it’s just as left-handed as it is right-handed. It also lets you save settings tweaks to the mouse, and the included cable is very flexible. It normally sells for around $90 in the past few months, but this deal is more accessible to anyone looking for a high-performance gaming mouse. If you don’t like the relatively low profile of the Viper Ultimate, Razer’s Basilisk Ultimate is a great alternative that’s also on sale, albeit for $19 more as of this writing.
In addition, we also have great deals on Apple’s latest iPad Air, recommended Bluetooth speakers and charging equipment from Anker, the popular card game board game 7 miracles, our video game of the year 2021 and much more. You can view our full curated overview below.
