The Lingerie Addict, a blog that for more than 14 years has featured not only unmentionable matters but also thoughtful consideration, announced on Sunday that its publication would be halted.
Cora Harrington, the blog’s founder and editor-in-chief, wrote in a post that the blog, which has been devoted solely to intimate apparel since its inception, would cease operations at the end of the month.
In her post, Ms Harrington cited a changing online landscape as a reason to close the store.
“A lot of people don’t necessarily find more information from blogs,” she wrote, adding that “the internet — especially social platforms — is becoming more hostile to my subject.”
“It’s a constant uphill battle,” said Mrs. Harrington, “and I’m getting tired of fighting.”
In an interview on Monday, Ms. Harrington said her content had recently become more engaged on platforms outside of the blog, which she said recently averaged 75,000 to 80,000 monthly visitors, compared to the hundreds of thousands of monthly readers the blog attracted in years gone by. .
Ms. Harrington, 37, also said she felt she had changed and grown as a person since she was in her early 20s with the blog.
“Fourteen years is a really long time to run a site,” she said. “I’m not the same person I was then.”
Ms Harrington started The Lingerie Addict in April 2008 after finding a lack of information about the ins and outs of lingerie. In addition to hosting her informative content such as reviews, editorials, and tutorials, she quickly saw the platform’s potential as an inclusive corner of the web.
“The Lingerie Addict has always been a ‘body-snark-free zone’ where we don’t talk about people’s bodies, don’t judge people’s bodies,” she said. “It has always been about an inclusive lingerie environment that is welcoming to sex workers, transgenders, queers and non-binary people.”
The diverse community that Ms. Harrington has nurtured online through the blog continues to be an active community, she said. While comments on the site itself have slowed down, interactions and conversations around Ms Harrington’s content on social media continue to flourish.
When they announced the news from her 80,000 Twitter followers, Mrs. Harrington received an outpouring of support and praise for her last nearly a decade and a half of work.
“This vocal and visible support that I get from thousands of people who read my work and who have never felt the need to hang out with me, but who now tell me that what I was doing made sense, it means so much to me,” she says. . said.
Tekla Taylor, 31, a digital media executive in Alexandria, Virginia, who has been following the blog since 2015 and a member of The Lingerie Addict’s Facebook group, expressed appreciation for Ms Harrington’s work, adding that “the archives to be a treasure for years to come.”
“As time goes by and the web becomes more fragmented and dominated by algorithmic social media platforms, an individual site or blog that really loves the topic takes on even more meaning,” they wrote on Twitter.
Ms. Harrington noted in her Sunday post, titled “Saying Goodbye to The Lingerie Addict,” that while she intended to close comments on all posts, the blog’s archives, store, and associated Patreon would all remain open. .
She hopes to take some time off before starting her second book and eventually creating space for The Lingerie Addict in her life in a new way.
“I don’t want to leave The Lingerie Addict behind – I don’t want it to seem like I’m dropping everything related to it,” Ms Harrington said Monday. “The question is, ‘How do I move forward so that The Lingerie Addict becomes part of my life and not everything?’ And that’s something I think it’s going to take some time to figure out.”
