Ukrainian-Russian couple flees Kiev
STORY: Mikhail Liublin is from Russia and his girlfriend is from Ukraine. And now they are fleeing the country at war. We met them in line for tickets to get on a train to Budapest from the Zahony border crossing after five days on the road. Mikhail’s friend preferred not to give her name. “It’s unusual, I think, because unlike everyone else here, I’m from Russia. I (live) in Ukraine for about a year.” “It was like there were bombings or gunfire almost every day, but in the end we managed to get here, which is almost unbelievable. It was a sequence of very unlikely but very happy events for us.” Putin on Thursday ordered a “special military operation” to disarm Ukraine. It has led to massive international sanctions. The Russian army tried to surround and subdue Ukrainian cities with intensified bombing raids on Wednesday (March 2). “It’s insane. And Russia will pay for it, for many years to come, and Putin must be brought to justice. Yes, it will be very difficult now, but hopefully it will work out and keep your fingers crossed that Ukraine will stand and the kindness and the truth will prevail.”
