The New York Post lashed out at Donald Trump again on Wednesday, burying it on page 26 of the former president’s favorite tabloid.
The paper, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch, derisively referred to Trump as “Florida Man” on the cover, teasing the launch — which took place Tuesday night at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla. front page with the headline: “Florida Man Makes Announcement.”
Murdoch’s conservative media empire — which includes the Post, Wall Street Journal, and Fox News — aided Trump’s remarkable rise to the presidency of the New York real estate magnate and reality show star.
But those former Trump-friendly outlets have soured Trump in the wake of the Republicans’ lackluster showing in last week’s midterm elections. And each took turns blaming Trump for the GOP’s dismal performance.
“Ron DeSantis is the new leader of the Republican Party,” Florida’s governor said ahead of his own impending decision on whether or not to run for president in 2024.
“The biggest winner of the midterm elections was without a doubt Gov. Ron DeSantis,” the editorial said. “The Biggest Loser? Donald Trump.”
“Trump is the Republican Party’s biggest loser,” the Wall Street Journal declared in .
“He has now flopped in 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022,” the WSJ editorial wrote. “What will the Democrats do if Donald Trump isn’t there to lose an election?”
The Post anointed DeSantis the GOP’s “DeFuture” and portrayed Trump as “.”
Trump fared slightly better on Tuesday with Fox News. Most of his primetime announcement aired live on Trump-friendly host Sean Hannity’s show. But even Hannity stopped for about 10 minutes to offer pro-Trump analysis from his guests, including former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, whom he applauded for sticking to the teleprompter most of the time.
“If he continues like this tonight,” Huckabee said, “he’s unbeatable in 2024.”
