Introducing WIRED's flagship podcast, 'Uncanny Valley'

Silicon Valley does have that has been an epicenter of global innovation for decades. But the Valley and its associated personalities, companies and trends have never been home to more undiluted power than now.

Think about it: Elon Musk, one of the richest people in the world, is essentially endorsing American presidential candidates while subsidiaries of his interstellar company SpaceX capture more space in space with every satellite launch; Despite the demise of Facebook as a common platform for many Americans, Meta's user base continues to grow worldwide, inching ever closer to the staggering 4 billion mark; and in the past two years, Silicon Valley startups and giants have once again spawned a lucrative tech hype cycle, catalyzing billions of dollars in spending against the promise of an AI revolution.

Here at WIRED, we cover all this power and influence every day on our digital platforms and in our print editions. But we're always looking for new ways to explore the rise of Silicon Valley, especially in ways that make it easier for you – the WIRED audience – to understand and think about it. Why would Elon Musk be so eager to see a Republican-led White House, and what would a Trump regulatory environment and a Muskian approach to federal efficiency mean for your daily life? If Meta continues to push to make the whole Metaverse thing a reality, how will it change the way you socialize, work, or learn? And is generative AI really going to change everything, or are we in the middle of a bubble that's about to blow apart the tech industry on a scale not seen since the dot-com crash of the early 2000s?

There is a lot to discuss, and there is a lot to talk about. That's why I'm happy to announce this Eerie Valleya new podcast from three of WIRED's top Bay Area journalists: Michael Calore, Zoë Schiffer and Lauren Goode. Together, Eerie ValleyThe conference presenters will untangle and explain the latest and biggest (or strangest) trends within the tech industry, and how they are about to shape society as a whole.

Expect informed and intelligent conversations from three hosts with decades of experience covering Silicon Valley, its products, And its people, all from the Bay Area bubble. And because this is WIRED, we'll also balance out that smart talk with a healthy dose of the weird: After all, Tech's most powerful people aren't just inventing the future — they're also trying to cheat death, in a one-off. each other's apocalypse bunkers, and build VC-backed cities from the ground up.

You can find Eerie Valley wherever you get your podcasts. And we want to hear from you: send feedback, ideas for the show, and questions for our hosts to uncannyvalley@CBNewz. I hope you love the show as much as we do; enjoy listening!
