Conservative attorney George Conway threw back some of Donald Trump’s recent taunts at him on Sunday after the former president seemed to forget who he had supported in the US Senate race in Ohio.
At a political rally in Nebraska on Sunday, Trump told those in attendance, “We’ve agreed to…JP? Right? JD Mandel. And he’s doing a great job.”
The Ohio candidate who endorsed Trump just over two weeks ago was actually JD Vance, a venture capitalist and the author of Hillbilly Elegy† Vance will face Josh Mandel in the May 3 primary GOP.
Conway’s tweet echoed a statement released Thursday by Trump attacking Conway and his wife Kellyanne Conway, who was Trump’s senior adviser to the White House until August 2020. George Conway is one of Trump’s most prominent conservative critics and helped found the anti-Trump PAC. The Lincoln Project.
“He is mentally ill, a very sick man,” Trump wrote of George Conway in the statement. “I don’t know what Kellyanne did to him, but it must have been really bad. She has completely destroyed this man – his mind has been completely shot.”
Conway’s swipe referred to adult film actor Stormy Daniels, who claimed she had sex with Trump in 2006 and was bribed to keep quiet about it. Trump’s former fixer, attorney Michael Cohen, admitted to paying hush money to Daniels and another woman before the 2016 election to prevent them from speaking out. Cohen later went to jail on several charges, including campaign finance violations related to those payments.
