A Russian missile that hit a train station in eastern Ukraine on Friday, killing dozens, had a Russian phrase meaning “For the children” on its side, Ukrainian officials said.
At least 30 people were killed and more than 100 were injured after two Russian missiles hit the train station in Kramatorsk, which is in Donetsk Oblast.
Communication Center of Ukraine tweeted that two children were killed in the attack.
The phrase — seen in white scribbled on the side of an alleged Russian missile in photos and video of the site of the attack — translates as a message that the missile was sent in revenge for children, not that it was intended to target children. to be used.
Russian propaganda has accused Ukrainian troops of killing children even as Russian troops fire at civilian targets, including a theater in Mariupol that served as shelter for residents and children.
Dozens of people flocked to the train station on Friday to evacuate from the eastern Donbas region as Western intelligence and NATO had warned that Russian forces would move out of the northern region of Kiev and concentrate their efforts on the east.
Photos and videos circulating on social media of Ukrainian officials and journalists showed a blood-stained sidewalk littered with luggage, prams and other belongings.
“The Russians knew that the train station in Kramatorsk was full of civilians waiting to be evacuated [struck] with a ballistic missile, killing at least 30 and injuring at least 100 people,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba tweeted after the strike.
He added: “This was a deliberate massacre. We will bring every war criminal to justice.”
