After a basement fire on Tuesday afternoon, crews weren't just dealing with flames.
Officials say they responded to a 911 call for a fire at a split-level home on Chubbuck Street around 3:30 p.m.
Arriving crews saw flames shooting from the basement, eventually spreading to the first floor.
According to Quincy's deputy fire chief, a second alarm was called due to the large amount of debris in the home, along with clothing “up to the chest” in the basement, making firefighting difficult.
Crews eventually contained the flames and limited fire damage to the basement and first floor.
Nine residents, six on the right and three on the left, and a dog escaped the home before firefighters arrived. There were no reports of injuries.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
